Why a specialist partner

Why Australian businesses want a Zoho Books partner

Australian accounting looks simple until you count everything sitting on top of it: GST and BAS cycles, PAYG withholding, Single Touch Payroll, super paid every payday, and an accountant who works in Xero or MYOB. A partner who has set up Zoho Books for local businesses before saves you weeks of trial and error, and gets your first BAS right.

GST and BAS done right

10% GST, your ABN and the right tax code on every sale and purchase, so your BAS matches what your accountant or BAS agent expects.

Payday Super is here

Since 1 July 2026, super is paid with each payday and reported through STP. Your ledger needs wages, PAYG and super to reconcile every pay run.

Xero and MYOB are the norm

Most Australian businesses arrive from Xero or MYOB. A clean move keeps BAS history, tracking categories and reports your accountant knows.

Time zones that work

We schedule sessions in the Australian afternoon, which is our morning, and Perth teams get the widest overlap with our day.

What a Zoho Books partner does

A Zoho Books partner is an independent company, separate from Zoho Corporation, that sets up and supports the software around your business. We start with your ABN, GST registration and how you invoice, then configure Zoho Books to match and document why each choice was made. For how country editions work across the USA, UK, Europe, the UAE and India, see our Zoho Books partner overview.

Australian compliance

What Australian compliance looks like inside Zoho Books

This is the checklist we work through on every Australian project: what the rule is, and how we set Zoho Books up to handle it.

RequirementWhat it meansHow Zoho Books and we handle it
ABN and GST10% GST. Registration is generally required once turnover reaches A$75,000 (A$150,000 for non-profits), and you need an ABN to trade and to claim credits.ABN captured, GST codes such as GST, GST-free and input-taxed configured, and tax applied consistently across invoices, bills and expenses.
BAS reportingA Business Activity Statement is prepared for each monthly or quarterly period, and must match your books.BAS report generated from your tax transactions, with adjustments, filing status and payment recorded, and a review routine for your accountant.
PAYG withholdingTax withheld from wages and certain payments must be reported and paid to the ATO.PAYG withheld summary report and liability accounts set up, reconciled against your payroll provider.
Payroll, STP and Payday SuperSince 1 July 2026, super must be paid with each payday and reach the fund within seven business days. It is calculated at 12% of qualifying earnings and reported through Single Touch Payroll.Payroll and STP run in your payroll provider. We connect its journals to Zoho Books and map wages, PAYG and super so balances reconcile each pay run.
Supplier payments and ABA filesMost Australian businesses pay suppliers in bank batches.ABA files generated for bill payments in the Australia edition, with an approval step before upload to your bank.
Bank feeds and reconciliationDaily reconciliation keeps GST, cash and BAS honest.Bank and card feeds connected where supported, with rules for repeat transactions.
Financial yearThe financial year runs 1 July to 30 June, with an end-of-year close and accountant handover.Financial year set correctly, opening balances and cut-over aligned to a BAS period or 1 July, and year-end handover reports ready.
E-invoicingAustralia uses the Peppol network for e-invoicing. It is voluntary for most businesses today, though some government and large customers prefer it.We check whether you need it, verify what Zoho Books supports today, and connect through a provider if required.
Multi-currencyMany Australian businesses invoice in USD, NZD, GBP or INR and need exchange differences booked cleanly.Foreign-currency invoices and receipts with exchange gains and losses booked to the right accounts, subject to your plan.
Record keepingBusiness records must be kept for a set period, commonly five years, and produced on request. Your accountant confirms the period.Documents attached to transactions, user roles and change history, and export packs ready for an audit or review.

Rules change, so we confirm rather than assume. This table describes the position at the time of writing. At kickoff we check the current thresholds, rates and deadlines with you and your accountant or BAS agent, and we do not hard-code rates or limits without confirming them first.

Where we support

Zoho Books support across Australia

GST and BAS are federal, so the framework is the same in every state, but the businesses are not. A consultancy in Sydney, a contractor in Perth and a farm supplier in South Australia have very different books, so we set Zoho Books up around your industry and your accountant's way of working.

RegionTypical businessesHow we help
Sydney and New South WalesProfessional services, finance, technology, retail and wholesaleMulti-entity books, BAS-ready reporting and a clean move from Xero or MYOB.

How we work with Australian teams

Chennai is roughly 2.5 hours behind Perth and 4.5 to 5.5 hours behind Sydney and Melbourne, depending on the season. We schedule discovery, setup, training and review sessions in the Australian afternoon, which is our morning, by screen-share. If you would like an in-person session for a larger project, raise it on the scoping call and we will tell you what is possible.

Migration

Migrating to Zoho Books from Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks or spreadsheets

Migration is where most accounting projects succeed or fail. Moving data is easy. Moving it so that your BAS history and reports still agree with last year's is the real work, so we treat migration as an accounting exercise first and a technical one second.

What we migrate

  • Customers, suppliers and their balances
  • Chart of accounts and opening balances at your cut-over date
  • Items, services and price lists
  • Open invoices, bills, credit notes and supplier credits
  • History for the period you choose, commonly the current financial year plus the previous one
  • ABN, GST settings and bank details

How the main sources differ

Coming fromWhat usually needs careHow we handle it
XeroTracking categories, GST codes, bank feed connections and repeating invoicesMap tracking to reporting tags, carry GST treatment across, reconnect feeds and recreate recurring documents.
MYOBAccount structures, GST codes, job tracking, payroll history and bank rulesMap accounts to a clean chart, carry GST treatment across, map jobs to tags, and plan how payroll journals reach Zoho Books.
QuickBooksClasses and locations, tax codes, item structures and vendor recordsExport in stages, map classes to tags or branches, rebuild GST codes and confirm supplier records.
Spreadsheets and other toolsInconsistent formats, duplicate contacts and missing ABNsClean and standardise first, then import in validated batches.

The best time to switch. Cut over at the start of a BAS period or the new financial year on 1 July, and avoid the days around a lodgement deadline. A clean start date makes BAS reconciliation easy, and we plan the timeline backwards from it.

We never migrate blind. Every migration includes a data-quality review before import, a reconciliation of totals afterwards, sign-off from you or your accountant, a rollback plan and, where the stakes are high, a parallel closing period so both systems produce the same numbers before the old one is retired.

Comparison

Zoho Books vs Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks in Australia

Most Australian buyers arrive with Xero or MYOB on their shortlist, often because their accountant uses one. We are a Zoho partner, so we favour Zoho Books, but we say where another tool genuinely fits better, because a wrong-fit purchase helps nobody.

ProductWhere it is strongWhere Zoho Books is strongerWhere it may fit better
XeroDominant with Australian accountants and bookkeepers, with a strong BAS and STP ecosystem.A free tier, an integrated CRM, inventory and workflow suite, and a lower entry cost.Practices that standardise clients on Xero.
MYOBLong Australian heritage, strong payroll and local accountant familiarity.A modern cloud experience and integrations across sales and operations.Businesses on MYOB with local payroll needs.
QuickBooks OnlineBroad global adoption and a large app ecosystem.Automation depth, a native Zoho suite and competitive pricing.Teams already invested in Intuit tools.

If your accountant insists on one tool, that can outweigh everything else, and we will tell you so. You do not have to choose overnight: many businesses run both systems side by side for a closing cycle. Plan prices and free-plan terms change and differ by edition, so we do not print them here. Check the current Zoho Books Australia plan page, and we will help you choose on a scoping call.

Integrations

Zoho Books integrations for the Australian stack

Accounting stops being a chore when data arrives on its own. Zoho Books connects natively to the wider Zoho ecosystem and to the payroll tools, banks and stores Australian businesses already use.

IntegrationWhat it does for you
Zoho CRMWon deals become customers, quotes and GST invoices without re-typing, and payment status shows inside the CRM record.
Zoho InventoryStock, purchase orders and sales orders stay in step with your books, across warehouses and locations.
Payroll providerYour STP-enabled payroll provider's journals flow into Zoho Books, mapped to wages, PAYG and super accounts, so payroll reconciles each pay run.
Zoho ExpenseEmployee claims and card spend arrive coded, approved and ready to reconcile.
Payment gatewaysStripe, PayPal and other supported gateways, with payment links on invoices and automatic reconciliation.
Banks and ABA paymentsBank feeds where supported, and ABA files for batch supplier payments in the Australia edition.
Online storesShopify, WooCommerce, Amazon and Magento orders, refunds and fees posted with the right GST treatment.
Zoho AnalyticsEntity-wise and job-wise dashboards, cash flow views and management reports beyond the standard reports.

When you need something custom

If a standard connector does not fit, we build the link with Deluge, Zoho Flow, Zoho Creator and the Zoho APIs, then document and hand it over so it never depends on one developer's memory. That includes a custom link to a payroll provider or an e-invoicing service if your setup calls for one.

Process

Our Zoho Books implementation process

Every engagement follows the same seven steps, so you always know where you are, what happens next and what we need from you.

  1. Discovery call

We learn your ABN, entities, current tools, payroll setup, team and pain points, and send a short written summary so mistakes are caught on day one.

  2. Scope and plan

We recommend the structure, plan and integrations, then agree scope, timeline and price in writing before any work starts.

  3. Foundation setup

Organisation, ABN and GST codes, chart of accounts, users, roles, templates and numbering, built for how your accountant works.

  4. Data migration

Contacts, opening balances, open invoices and bills and agreed history, cleaned before import and reconciled to your trial balance afterwards.

  5. Integrations and automation

Banks, payroll, gateways, CRM, inventory and workflows connected and tested with realistic transactions.

  6. Training and parallel run

Role-based training in the Australian afternoon and, for migrations, a parallel closing cycle so your accountant can compare old and new numbers.

  7. Go-live and support

A cut-over plan aligned to a BAS period or 1 July, hyper-care in the first weeks, and a handover with documentation.

How long does it take?

Timelines depend on scope, so treat these as typical ranges. We confirm a firm timeline after a scoping call.

ScopeTypical duration
Single entity, standard setup, no migration2 to 4 weeks
Single entity with migration from Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks or spreadsheets4 to 8 weeks
Integrations with CRM, inventory, payroll or online storesAdds 1 to 4 weeks, depending on how many
Several entities or ABNs6 to 12 weeks, often phased by entity
Multi-country rollout8 to 12 weeks or more, often phased by entity

The more responsive your team is in the first two weeks, the faster everything else moves. We ask for one decision-maker, access to your current data, your ABN and registration details and a few short review sessions.

Cost

What a Zoho Books partner costs in Australia

Every project is different, so we quote after a scoping call instead of publishing a price that fits nobody. Here is what moves the number.

Entities and ABNs

The number of legal entities and GST registrations is the biggest driver, because each needs its own setup and testing.

Data to migrate

A clean current-year import is small. Several years of history from a legacy tool with messy contacts takes longer.

Integrations

Each connection to CRM, inventory, payroll, gateways, banks or a store adds design, build and testing time.

Customisation and training

Custom reports, automations and the number of people we train all change the effort.

Engagement models

ModelHow it worksBest when
Fixed scopeAgreed deliverables for an agreed price, often after a short paid discovery.Requirements are clear and stable.
Collaborative sprintsWork delivered in short cycles with regular reviews, priced by estimate or capped hours.Requirements will evolve as you see the system.
Retainer or hours bucketA monthly block of support and improvement hours. You want ongoing help after go-live.

A single-entity setup with light migration is a small project. A multi-entity rollout with several integrations is larger. Either way you get scope, assumptions and what triggers extra charges in writing before work begins.

Choosing a partner

How to choose a Zoho Books partner in Australia

A partner shapes how your finance team works for years, so the choice deserves more than a price comparison. This is the checklist we would use if we were buying.

Eight questions to ask before you sign

  1. Are you in Zoho's official partner directory? Check the listing yourself, filter by country and read the reviews.
  2. Have you set up GST, BAS and payroll journals in Zoho Books? Ask for specifics, not just general Zoho experience.
  3. How do you handle a migration from Xero or MYOB? Listen for GST code mapping, trial balance checks, sign-off and a parallel run.
  4. What is your plan for Payday Super and STP? A good partner explains how payroll journals reach the ledger and reconcile.
  5. Who does the work? Ask whether you get a named consultant or a rotating queue, and who covers absences.
  6. Will you work in my hours? A remote partner should overlap with your working day and say how quickly it replies.
  7. Can you work with my accountant or BAS agent? The best setups are built with the people who lodge your BAS.
  8. What does it cost, and what is not included? Ask for scope, assumptions and what triggers extra charges.

Red flags

  • A very low fixed price that promises everything, with no discovery step
  • Setup that starts before anyone asks about your ABN or BAS cycle
  • No mention of payroll, super or reconciliation
  • Slow or vague replies during the sales process
  • No documentation or handover in the scope

Partner tiers: useful, not the whole story

Zoho groups partners into tiers (Authorized, Advanced and Premium) based on factors such as certifications, tenure, customers and verified reviews. Tier is a helpful signal but not a quality score. A smaller partner that has set up Zoho Books for Australian businesses many times can serve you better than a larger one that has not. Focus on relevant experience, communication and references.

Why Datahikes

Why Australian businesses choose Datahikes for Zoho Books

Datahikes is a Zoho Consulting Partner headquartered in Chennai. Our background spans finance operations, data analytics, project management and digital systems, so we treat Zoho Books as a business process to design, not a form to fill in.

Australia-first setup

We configure your ABN, GST codes and BAS settings before anything else, so your first BAS matches what your accountant expects.

The whole Zoho stack

We also implement Zoho CRM, Desk, Creator, Inventory, People and Zoho One, so Books is designed alongside the rest, not patched on later.

Custom build capability

When a standard connector does not fit, we write the function. Deluge, Zoho Flow, Zoho Creator and API work are part of every week.

Documented, not mysterious

You receive configuration notes and walkthroughs, so you understand why things were built as they were and can extend them.

Honest scoping

If Zoho Books is not the right answer for a requirement, or your accountant needs another tool, we tell you before you sign, not after.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Zoho Books in Australia

Straight answers on GST, BAS, Payday Super, migration, timelines and cost. Still have a question? Send it through the form below.

What does a Zoho Books partner in Australia do?

A Zoho Books partner is an independent company, separate from Zoho Corporation, that sets up, migrates, integrates and supports Zoho Books. In Australia that means configuring GST and BAS, connecting your payroll and bank feeds, moving data from Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks, and supporting your team remotely in Australian afternoons.

How do I choose a Zoho Books partner in Australia?

Check the official Zoho partner directory, and ask for experience with GST, BAS and migration from Xero or MYOB specifically. Ask who does the work, what gets documented and what support follows go-live. How quickly and clearly a partner replies before you sign is a good preview of the service afterwards.

Does Zoho Books support Australian GST and BAS?

Yes. Zoho has an Australia edition that creates GST invoices, lets you add tax rates and generates a BAS report from your tax transactions, with adjustments and a record of filing and payment. We configure your tax codes and BAS settings and confirm them with your accountant.

Do I need to register for GST?

GST registration is generally required once your turnover reaches A$75,000, or A$150,000 for non-profit organisations, and many businesses register earlier by choice. Your accountant confirms your position. Once you are registered, we set up your ABN, GST codes and BAS settings so your first BAS matches their expectations.

Can I lodge my BAS from Zoho Books?

Zoho Books prepares the BAS report, lets you mark it as filed and record the payment, but lodgement with the ATO goes through your accountant, BAS agent or the ATO portal. We set up the report and a review routine so whoever lodges can work from the ledger.

How does Payday Super affect my accounting?

Since 1 July 2026, employers must pay super with each payday, reaching the fund within seven business days, calculated at 12% of qualifying earnings and reported through Single Touch Payroll. Payroll runs in your payroll provider. We connect its journals to Zoho Books so wages, super and cash reconcile.

Does Zoho Books run payroll and Single Touch Payroll?

Your payroll and STP reporting run in your payroll provider. We connect that provider's journals to Zoho Books, map wages, PAYG withholding and super to the right accounts, and set up reports so your accountant can reconcile the balances each pay run.

Can I pay suppliers by ABA file?

Yes. The Australia edition can generate ABA files for bill payments, which most Australian banks accept for batch payments. We set up your bank details and approval flow so a batch is reviewed before it is uploaded to your bank.

Can I migrate from Xero or MYOB to Zoho Books?

Yes. We map your chart of accounts, tracking categories and GST codes, import contacts, opening balances, open invoices and bills and the history you choose, and reconcile the result to your trial balance. A parallel closing period lets your accountant sign off before you switch.

When is the best time to switch accounting software in Australia?

The cleanest moment is the start of a BAS period or the new financial year on 1 July, away from lodgement deadlines. A clean start date makes opening balances and BAS reconciliation simple, and we plan the project timeline backwards from it.

Can I run my old system alongside Zoho Books for a while?

Yes. Many businesses run both for one closing cycle so their accountant can compare the numbers, then move the old system to read-only. We plan the overlap so it is short, deliberate and ends on a clear cut-over date.

Can Zoho Books handle several entities or ABNs?

Yes. The usual approach is one Zoho Books organisation per legal entity, each with its own ABN and GST settings, with consolidated reporting through Zoho Analytics. Intercompany invoices and multi-currency are configured so every entity stays clean on its own.

Which banks and payment gateways work with Zoho Books in Australia?

Zoho Books supports bank feeds from many Australian banks through a feeds provider, and works with gateways such as Stripe and PayPal. Availability varies by bank and plan, so we check the ones you use before we plan the setup.

What time zone do you work in?

We are headquartered in Chennai, roughly 2.5 hours behind Perth and 4.5 to 5.5 hours behind Sydney and Melbourne depending on the season. We schedule sessions in the Australian afternoon, which is our morning. We work remotely by default, and support is in English.

Do you support businesses across Australia?

Yes. GST and BAS are federal, so the framework is the same in every state and territory, and we support businesses in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra and regional areas remotely. State payroll tax and other state rules vary, and your accountant confirms them.

How much does a Zoho Books partner cost in Australia?

Cost depends on the number of entities, migration volume, integrations, customisation and training. A single-entity setup with light migration is a small project. We quote after a scoping call, with clear scope and assumptions written down before work begins.
